Tursunov Takes Home Indianapolis Title

Dmitry Tursunov won his second career ATP singles title with a 6-4, 7-5 win in one hour and 17 minutes over Frank Dancevic in the Indianapolis Tennis Championships final. He broke serve once in each set, including in the penultimate game of the match before serving it out quickly, and never faced a single break point in 11 of his own service games.
Tursunov won his first career ATP singles title on hardcourts at Mumbai last year. He is now 2-1 lifetime in ATP singles finals, having also finished runner-up at Los Angeles last year. He improves to 7-2 lifetime at Indianapolis, going 1-1 in reaching the second round in 2005 (falling to Andy Roddick), 1-1 in reaching the third round last year (falling to Xavier Malisse) and 5-0 in winning the title this past week, as the tournament's No. 3 seed. The Russian is now 19-13 this season, which includes winning 14 of his last 18 matches.
Dancevic was playing his first ATP final, having never even won consecutive main draw matches on the ATP circuit previously. Dancevic was the first Canadian to advance to an ATP quarterfinal (or better) since Sebastien Lareau reached the Memphis semifinals on February 24, 2001, and was the first Canadian citizen to advance to an ATP final since Greg Rudedski captured the Seoul title on April 30, 1995.
The 22-year-old, who was unseeded, upset No. 8 seed Benjamin Becker in the first round and then notched his first career Top 10 win (in four tries) over top-seeded World No. 5 Roddick in the semifinals.
