Ronaldo involved in altercation with transvestites

AC Milan striker Ronaldo was questioned by police after an altercation with transvestites in a Rio de Janeiro motel on Monday, authorities said.

Ronaldo accused one of the transvestites of trying to extort him, police inspector Carlos Augusto Nogueira said.

Police were still investigating what happened, but Nogueira said the altercation began when Ronaldo found out he was dealing with transvestites instead of women. The inspector said Ronaldo admitted he knew they were prostitutes when they met on Sunday night, but did not realize they were transvestites until they got to the motel.

"He admitted to everything, he wanted to have fun," Nogueira said. "But he committed no crime at all, it was immoral at best."

Prostitution was not illegal in Brazil.

The striker told police he offered to pay the transvestites anyway, but before he left one of them allegedly asked for 50,000 reals ($A32,000) to hide the story from the media.

Nogueira said he believed Ronaldo's version because the transvestite decided to leave the police station even before being fully questioned by authorities.

The transvestite also accused Ronaldo of asking him to buy drugs.

In a statement to TV Globo, Ronaldo reiterated he was a victim of extortion and denied he has ever used drugs.

Ronaldo and the transvestites were only interviewed by police and voluntarily went to the police station.

Ronaldo is in Rio de Janeiro recovering from left knee surgery. He said on Sunday he could be back in action in six months if his recovery continues to go as planned.

Ronaldo has won two World Cups with Brazil, including the in 2002 when he scored eight goals, including two in the final against Germany.

A message to Ronaldo's spokesman was not immediately answered on Monday

Ronaldo ? What happened ? Why you doing this to your self ?

Nadal tops Federer at Monte Carlo

MONTE CARLO, Monaco (AP) -- Rafael Nadal defeated Roger Federer 7-5, 7-5 Sunday to win the Monte Carlo Masters for a fourth consecutive year.

For a second straight year, the Spaniard did not drop a set. Nadal has beaten the top-ranked Federer three times in the final, improving his clay-court record over the Swiss star to 7-1.

"Winning four times here is unimaginable," Nadal said.

Federer blew commanding positions in each set, breaking the second-ranked Nadal to lead 4-3 in the first and racing to a 4-0 lead in the second. Federer committed too many unforced errors, surprisingly on his forehand, to let Nadal back into the match.

The Spaniard has now won 22 consecutive matches at Monte Carlo since losing to Guillermo Coria in the third round in 2003. Federer was the last person to take a set from him in the 2006 final.Relying too much on his forehand, Federer also missed routine volleys at the net, and made 44 unforced errors

One Two for Ferrari ....!

Ferrari may have recorded a comfortable one-two in Barcelona on Sunday, but behind them another six teams scored points, emphasising just how competitive the 2008 Formula One season has become. McLaren returned to form, Renault were back in the mix, Honda scored their first ’08 points, and Red Bull clinched their best result of the year.

The recent intensive development work has obviously paid off for the bulk of the teams then, though not by enough to trouble Ferrari, who left Spain with a commanding constructors’ championship lead and with Kimi Raikkonen nine points clear atop the driver standings…

Ferrari
Kimi Raikkonen, 1m 21.670s, P1
Felipe Massa, 1m 21.801s, P2

Yet again, Ferrari had another fast and trouble-free day to take a dominant one-two. They said they were surprised that the race was so close, but in the same breath winner Raikkonen admitted that he could have gone faster - had anyone got close enough to make him care! After everyone had updated their cars for the European leg, the reds demonstrated that not very much has changed.....

Madrid within touching distance

Real Madrid crushed Athletic Bilbao 3-0 at the Bernabeu on Sunday to edge closer to the Spanish title but Villarreal's 1-0 victory at Real Betis put their celebrations on hold for at least another week. Real's victory means that with four games left to play they remain 10 points clear of Villarreal at the top of the table on 75 points and will claim their 31st league title if they win next week's match at Osasuna

Danica Patrick makes IndyCar history

MOTEGI, Japan (AP)
-- Danica Patrick became the first female winner in IndyCar history on Sunday, taking the Indy Japan 300 after the top contenders were forced to pit for fuel in the final laps. Patrick finished 5.8594 seconds ahead of pole-sitter Helio Castroneves on the 1.5-mile Twin Ring Motegi oval after leader Scott Dixon pitted with five laps left and Dan Wheldon and Tony Kanaan came in a lap later.

"It's a long time coming. Finally," Patrick said. "It was a fuel strategy race, but my team called it perfectly for me. I knew I was on the same strategy as Helio, and when I passed him for the lead, I couldn't believe it. This is fabulous."

The 26-year-old Patrick won in her 50th career IndyCar start, taking the lead from Castroneves on the 198th lap in the 200-lap race.

"I think Danica is such a fantastic person, and I'm thrilled for her that the monkey is finally off of her back," said Michael Andretti, co-owner of Andretti Green Racing. "We have all believed in her, and she proved today that she is a winner. Frankly, I think this is the first of many."

Dixon took the lead from Castroneves on the 93rd lap in the race pushed back to Sunday because of wet track conditions Saturday, but gave up the spot to pit for fuel.

"We led for a lot of laps but came up short," Dixon said. "But congratulations to Danica for her first victory."

Patrick, who started from the third row and made her final pit stop on lap 148, stayed close to the leaders throughout the race.

BRAVO !!! well done, you prove that no man is more superior than they look !

Real romp towards Spanish league title

(CNN) --
Real Madrid are poised to clinch a second successive Spanish league title after going 10 points clear at the top with a 2-0 victory at Racing Santander on Sunday.
Coach Bernd Schuster will earn a trophy in his first year in charge next weekend if Real beat Athletic Bilbao next Sunday and nearest rivals Villarreal and Barcelona drop points.

Villarreal moved back into second place on Sunday as Nihat Kahveci and Santi Cazorla scored in the 2-0 victory against Real Valladolid, while Barcelona are a point further back in third after Saturday's 0-0 draw at home to city rivals Espanyol.
Real captain Raul Gonzalez put the visitors ahead in the 13th minute with his 17th league goal this season, the 30-year-old deftly diverting Robinho's left-wing cross past goalkeeper Tono Rodriguez.

Santander, seeking to climb up into fourth place, almost leveled before halftime when a Cesar Navas skimmed past the post and then Real goalkeeper Ikar Casillas did well to deny Mohamed Tchite soon after the break.
Robinho and Arjen Robben both fired wide and Tono kept out another effort from Raul before Gonzalo Higuain sealed victory for Real in injury-time when he sidefooted home a pass from fellow second-half substitute Javier Balboa on the counter-attack.

The result meant that Real are almost guaranteed the title with five matches still to play.

Immelman man of the moment at Masters

For more than just his golf.

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Trevor Immelman felt goose bumps as he listened to a phone message left by Gary Player, his childhood idol and the last South African to slip on a green jacket at the Masters.

Player told him to believe in himself, to be strong through the adversity that was sure to find him during the wind-whipped final round at Augusta National.

“I took that all to heart,” Immelman said after a three-shot victory. “And I’m sure he’s proud of me.”

Only four months ago, Immelman was in a hospital in South Africa as doctors prepared to remove a tumor from his diaphragm, learning only after the operation that it was benign. On Sunday, as he stood over a slippery 20-foot putt for par as Tiger Woods was trying to make a charge, Immelman passed his biggest test in golf.

Immelman came up clutch around Amen Corner, stretched his lead to as many as six shots, and held on for a 3-over 75 to become the first South African since Player in 1978 to wear the coveted green jacket.

“This has been the ultimate roller-coaster ride, and I hate roller coasters,” Immelman said.

He wins a tournament in South Africa. He’s in the hospital a week later as doctors slice open his back to remove a tumor. He struggles to contend when he returns to golf. And only last week, he misses another cut on the PGA Tour.

“Here I am ... Masters champion,” Immelman said. “It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard of.”
Well done ....
